![]() ![]() There’s so much energy being burnt in Cataract City. ![]() You use a lot of poetic techniques in your work, including some kick ass similes and metaphors. Come to think of it, the shift sometimes feels like I’ve taken a punch to the head. It made sense to graduate from fiction reader to fiction writer. But as a voracious reader, I’d pretty much devoured the entire Taylor Public Library fiction collection by the time I was twelve. Poetry chose me, not the other way around. I started off back in my loony teens flipping poetry like pancakes. Poetry and fiction seem to come from such different places in me that it’s almost like having a split personality. ![]() When I was a kid, I had an inflatable Popeye punching bag and was so freaked out by the feel of my fists connecting with his billowing jaw that I decided that running fast would be a good knack to develop. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have put so much energy into avoiding physical violence of any kind. Who knew being a human punching bag would eventually result in creative writing skills.
